Antarctica and Its Majesty - By: C. Taylor Charles

The continent of Antarctica is a place like no other in the world with its stark beauty and brutal climate and terrain. During the history of mankind, there has been no blood shed due to war, making it unique in that respect. Even though this continent is much larger than both Europe and American combined, less men have died to natural type causes due to the lack of germs, than they have died of violent deaths.

This is a very unique world for that fact that men of countries that would not otherwise get along are working in harmony. There interactions are warm and comforting, even though just outside the walls the temperature gets to 100 degrees below zero, which could freeze their blood in just a few short seconds. It is a land of voracious appetites where American consume four meals per day without the slightest weight gain as the brutal cold burns calories quicker than any diet.

During the summer months, Antarctica is bathed in endless sunlight, which gives way to what is known as the "big eye", an insomnia condition that plagues most residents, as they struggle to sleep in the bright light of day. Antarctica loftily brags of the most distinctive club on earth, the "300 Degree Club." It holds claim to the cheapest and southernmost bar on the planet, located at the South Pole. Here it is possible to get a 12 year old scotch or a cognac for the same exact price and still have a huge bar tab by the time you are ready to leave. In Antarctica the nights are rather lengthy, starting in April and concluding in September.

The heartland of Antarctica is blanketed with a moving cap of ice that is 9,000 feet thick; however, geologists believe that there may be sufficient coal, natural gas, and oil to supply the planet within it. What few laws there are in Antarctica, are definitely different - they don't extradite criminals, and anyone who would consider hiding out in nine million square miles of open, broad valleys, or in 15,000 ft. ranges of mountains, would have a tough time staying alive more than a few hours in what is the most incredible vicious environment in the world.

You may be surprised that even though there are no laws, it is the continent with the lowest rate of crime in the world. Many say it could be the site of the perfect crime. As a matter of fact, if murder has ever taken place here, no charges where ever brought against the murderer. And if someone DID commit a crime, with no extradition agreements or statutes, there would be no way to charge or prosecute them.

Even though there are flags of 10 different nation here in Antarctica, not a single one has tried to exploit it's real estate. No colonization of this primitive land has occurred on any permanent basis, but there is a plethora of the most advanced scientific instruments available, and there are computer systems at the Pole.

Most of the residents will not permanently live here, but they are some of the brightest in the world. In no other continent will you find more people with degrees than a high school education. There is no university which is home to more scientific talent and it is the location of more peaceful scientific experimentation than any capital of the world. Unlike any other landmass, there are strict regulations that prevent any nuclear testing or nuclear bomb explosions.

As a matter of fact, no matter what continent you go to, you will not find environment laws as strict as they are in Antarctica. Whaling and sealing are regulated there now, people seeking those trades requiring licenses to even be in those waters. The world's scientists, who find Antarctica to be a research treasure, are working hard to maintain its pristine condition.

Unlike other landmasses on the globe, Antarctica is as beautiful as it is brutal. During the history of mankind, there has been no blood shed due to war, making it unique in that respect.
