eBay- The 5 steps to a good listing.

By: Dave Articlesubmit

If you are to be a successful seller on eBay you are going to have to be able to create good listings. Before we go any further it is important to define what is a good listing? A good listing is one that does the job it is intended to do which is to sell as much of your product as possible.
You do not have asmooth salesman who can show your customer your product and persuade them to buy. Your listing is your salesman and it must do the job for you. So it is important that you make your listing as appealing and persuasive as possible.
Step 1. Create a logical format. Ideally all your listings should follow the same logical format. Start off with the general description of the item and then move on to special features, guarantees and shipping information.
Step 2: Make your listing easy to read. These days especially on the Internet people tend to scan rather than read in depth so your listing should be easy on the eye. Avoid having big blocks of text. Go for short paragraphs and use bullets where appropriate. (bullets are a series of single sentences preceded by a dot or a square to make them stand out).
It has been proved over and over again that the best combination to read on the Internet is black letters on a white background. Unless there is a very good reason not to, this is what you should use for your listings,
Step 3. Avoid Gimmicks. It is easy to make your listing stand out with flash effects or by using way colour schemes but all this does is distract from your actual product. We have all seen those fantastic ads on the TV that win awards. We all remember the Ad but have no idea what they were actually advertising.
Step 4. Proof Read. Whatever you do before posting your listing make sure you or someone else proof reads it. There is nothing that looks less professional than a listing that is full of spelling or typographical errors.
Step 5 . Create a Brand. One of your objects is to make yourself stand out from your competitors. Therefore you want to make it easy for customers to recognise your listings. This is all part of the confidence building between you and your customers. Using a designer heading for your listings and possibly creating an easily recognisable logo will help you do this.
Spend time on your listings and you will reap rewards with your sales.
